KIAMBU,Kenya, Aug, 14 – The prime suspect in the murder of 34 year-old Esther Njigi Nyaga is set to be arraigned next week where he is expected to take plea as the family of the deceased calls for justice.

According to preliminary reports, the suspect, Evans Kamau, who is also the deceased’s estranged husband allegedly stabbed the mother of three 17 times this past Sunday, August 8,2021.

Kamau was arrested Tuesday by police after attempting to evade capture.

On the fateful night, the suspect is said to have visited the deceased’s home in Everest Estate in Juja and later proceeded to disconnect the electricity power line, then accessed the home through the rear gate.

Neighbours are then said to have heard a commotion and visited the house only to find the deceased on her bedroom floor bleeding out.

“Initially Esther’s eldest daughter came to my house and knocked on the door saying that her mother had been stabbed by her father and that we should rush her to hospital.” Said Purity Gathoni, deceased’s neighbour.

While being rushed to the Thika Level 5 hospital, the deceased also whispered to neighbors that her husband is the one that stabbed her, according to witnesses statements.

Esther shortly after her arrival succumbed to her injuries.

Witnesses told Shahidi News that the suspect has on numerous occasions defied a court order barring him from visiting the deceased home often at times heavily armed.

Juja DCIO Richard Mwaura, said the suspect was arrested on Tuesday and arraigned before a Thika court under a  miscellaneous application.

Detectives were granted more days to detain the suspect amidst investigations.

“The suspect should pay for this crime, it is heinous and it is animalistic,” said the deceased’s brother.

“She was alive all the way to the hospital and there are things she said, and neighbors know what she said, she was able to identify the assailant.” said another sibling.

A postmortem examination revealed that the deceased died as a result of excessive bleeding as a result of stab wounds.

The suspect is expected to be arraigned next week in order to take plea.

The estranged couples were married in 2010 before recently being separated according to the family.

The deceased worked as a nurse at Muruka dispensary in Kandara,  Murang’a county.
