NAIROBI,Kenya, Aug, 17 – A woman who allegedly poured hot water on her husband has pleaded not guilty to charges of causing grievous harm.

Appearing before Kibera law courts principal magistrate Sharon Maroro, the accused, Pamela Mwendwa, said they have been embroiled in a domestic dispute with her husband, Sebastian Irukan for some time now.

The accused, told the courts she acted in self defense, after her husband returned home with another woman and demanded she vacate their home in Gachui village, Dagoretti, Nairobi county.

The incident occurred on July 23,2021.

“I started to pack to leave but before I finished, my husband took water that I was boiling to make tea and put it in a container and approached me.  We had a tussle before he burnt me and accidentally the water fell on him,” she said.

A police report however stated that the accused inquired about the mystery woman from husband and after being unsatisfied with the answer, she allegedly attacked her husband before leaving for work.

The victim sustained injuries on the neck, shoulder and parts of his abdomen.

“Neighbors came in to rescue the victim, rushing him to hospital,” read a section of the police report.

The accused was released on a cash bail of Sh100,000 and an alternative bond of a similar amount.

The case will be mentioned on August 30.
