KISUMU,Kenya, Aug 23 – Albert Kimutai and Martin Murimi, officers attached at the Sawagagongo police post in Siaya were Monday arraigned before a Kisumu court and charged with attempted robbery with violence.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Peter Gesora, the court was informed that the two suspects were captured on cctv Cameras wielding G-3 rifle and an AK-47 rifle attempting to rob a manager of a petrol station in Kisumu.

The two however denied the charges. A third suspect, a ciclian identified as  Michael Odhiambo was also arraigned and pleaded not guilty.

So far 11 witnesses have been lined up to testify by the prosecution, Sylvester Thuo, against the three suspects in the incident that occurred on  August 12, 2021.

The prosecution argued that upon their arrest last week, detectives consisted the two firearms said to have been wielded by the two officers.

They were stashed in a metal box at their homes.

Clothes identical to the ones they were wearing, captured on camera were also recovered including a positive identification of a Silver BMW vehicle they used during the incident.

The accused lawyer Justus Okoth pleaded with the courts to have the suspects released on ‘favoutable’ bond terms.

“We pray that the accused be released on favorable bond terms. We are also requesting the court to supply us with copies of the documents the prosecution is seeking to rely on,” said Okoth.

They were released on a Sh300,000 bond.

The case will now be heard on September, 4,2021.
