KIRINYAGA, Kenya, Aug 23- Ten children are among 14 Ethiopians arrested in Kirinyaga County, police have said.
The 14 were arrested over the weekend and booked in at the Baricho station.
They all did not have travelling documents and could not speak Swahili or English.
It is suspected they are victims of human trafficking.
Police said they had also arrested two Kenyans, whom they say are member of a syndicate involved in human trafficking.
The children were aged between 12 and 13 years.
They had traveled unnoticed, until the vehicle they were travelling in was involved in a road accident.
“When we came to their rescue, after we were notified by locals of the accident, we discovered they are all foreigners without travelling documents,” Kirinyaga West Sub-County Police Commander Martha Ng’etich told Shahidi News.
Hundreds of foreigners, believed to be victims of human trafficking, are arrested in the country every month, and more so in Ruiru within Kiambu County.
Kenya is classified as a destination and a major transit hub.
Despite the arrests, the vice continues to thrive, with those involved- some highly placed, cashing in, on the victims’ misery.
