MOMBASA, Kenya, Aug 23- Two terror suspects were Monday arrested by Special Forces officers following a botched mission in Mombasa.
They were nabbed at the Likoni-Ferry crossing channel at around 10 am.
The officers seemed to have prior information on the movements of the suspects before they struck.
Two AK-47 rifles, mobile phones, ammunition and other items were recovered during the joint operation.
Coast Regional Police Commandant Manase Musyoka said a probe has already been launched into the matter.
He said the suspects were headed for a ‘mission’ at an undisclosed place in the area.
Kwale is a main source of returnees from Somalia. The returnees had been to Somalia where they joined the Al-Shabaab militants engaged in a misguided war against local administration and AMISOM forces in peace efforts in the horn of Africa nation.
Kenyan officials have identified the area as a source of threat to national security.
