NAKURU,Kenya, Aug 31 – The National Youth Service (NYS) is set to formalize an agreement with the Council of Governors (COG) that will see county officers receive a formal training in a bid to improve efficiency in the running of its operations.
According to the two partners, the deal will seek to establish a training curriculum for enforcement and administration officers.
During a ceremony that saw close to 400 administrators and enforcement officers from Mandera county graduate following close to two months of vigorous training on Monday, Mandera governor Ali Roba said that the exercise will benefit the devolved governments.
“We are already working with NYS in training our village administrators and enforcement officers and this will motivate others on the ground,” Said Governor Ali Roba.
According to Roba the training will greatly empower youth in his county as he urged other counties to emulate his partnership with the NYS.
“Through the Council of Governors we should make sure that other counties benefit from this partnership that seeks to empower the youth through various forms of training,” he said.
Meanwhile Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui hailed the milestone by the Mandera county government saying that they too are considering joining the programme at the same time challenging the institution to embark on a national exercise that will see more youth join their ranks across the country.
“Through the Council of Governors we can enter into a memorandum of understanding with NYS in terms of training. Such training is part of the fruits of devolution which has changed the lives of millions across the country,” Said Governor Kinyanjui.
During the ceremony, a good number of the graduates were women. A step in the right direction according to Roba as he urged more from Northern Kenyan to join the NYS ranks and county government enforcement teams.
