MURANG’A Kenya, Sep, 5 – Screams rent the air shortly after breakfast on Sunday morning in Kagumo-ini village of Gaichanjiru ward in Kandara, Murang’a County, after a 65 year-old woman allegedly killed his 99 year-old husband.

According to preliminary reports, the deceased Ndung’u Mugachia was killed using a machete by his wife Margaret Wanjiru who slit his throat following an altercation.

According to the deceased’s daughter in-law, the suspect had initially started hurling insults for no apparent reason at her husband and children outside their home.

The deceased shortly after urged her to be calm before she left the premises heading inside their home.

“We woke up in the morning and my mother in-law was insulting us because I was giving my father in-law food. She was told it was too early to be involved in an altercation so I went to kitchen to prepare breakfast,” said Betty Mumbi.

Shortly after, she came running and started assaulting her husband before cutting him with a machete.

Mumbi said her father-in-law was killed, “because I was preparing food for him.”

The deceased’s daughter said her mother has had a history of being violent. She has in the past threatened to kill her entire family.

“She used to say that one day she would kill herself and even kill my father. I was even chased away from home for serving my father food. How can I not take care of my father yet I am capable of doing so?” asked Sarafina Nyambura.

In a separate incident back in March, the suspect is also said to have attacked her husband. She is said to have hit him with a blunt object on the head.

The incident was reported at the local police station.

In yet another incident, she is said to have in the past attacked another woman.

Following the incident, she was arrested and later released. She is said to have fled her home after the incident, only to return after close to 5 years.

She was whisked away by the police amidst attempts by agitated locals to attack her.

She is being held at the Kabati police station awaiting to be arraigned.
