KAJIADO, Kenya, Sept 6- Three livestock theft suspects have been arrested and 13 cows that had been stolen recovered in Emarba village, Kajiado Central Sub-County, amidst a rise in such cases.
The suspects are said to have stolen 20 cows from a dairy farmer in Malili village in Machakos County on the night of September 1.
Village elders were notified by locals who thereafter alerted police officers who raided the suspect’s respective homes and managed to recover the 13 cows on Sunday evening.
The suspects are currently in police custody waiting to be arraigned.
The suspects are believed to be part of a livestock theft syndicate that has been holding the entire county captive.
According to police, more than 1,000 cows have been stolen in the last six months.
Local residents have condemned the incident saying they will not tolerate livestock thieves among them.
The local administration said they have put up a raft of measures to curb livestock theft within the region or from the neighbouring counties.
The stolen Livestock owner said the suspects had stolen his entire herd leaving him counting losses. He wants security agents to reign on livestock thieves who have left a trail of pain and loss to farmers.
The remaining seven cows are yet to be recovered with police officers following a close lead.
