BUSIA,Kenya, Sep 7 – A baffling incident involving a mysterious prison break has put police on high alert in Busia after a man suspected of murder broke free on Monday.

According to preliminary reports, the suspect, 29-year-old Wilson Simiyu Situma had been…under police supervision, temporarily released to fetch water about 10 meters from his cell when he escaped officer’s grip managing to scale the police station’s wall.

“The police that was guarding him attempted to catch him but he managed to escape despite him firing three warning shots in the air….he scaled the police wall and fled aboard a bodaboda,” said Busia Deputy County Commissioner, Kipchumba Ruto.

The suspect had been arrested two weeks ago in Trans Nzoia following a robbery incident and later transferred to Busia where he was set to be arraigned Tuesday.

According to DCC Ruto, the suspect was transferred after a ballistic examination on the firearm he was using revealed it had been used in a pending murder case involving a businessman in Busia back in February.

Police recovered an AK-47 rifle and two rounds of ammunition.

“The gun that was allegedly used was taken for ballistic examination and later revealed it was used to commit murder in Busia, He was set to be arraigned. I want residents of Busia to be on high alert and report to police immediately if they spot the suspect, he is a serious and dangerous criminal within our area,” he said.

A manhunt for the suspect is ongoing.
