NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept 7- Motorists using Mombasa Road are now being urged to terminate their journey at Syokimau Railway terminus to and from the city centre as part of efforts to ease congestion on the section that is under construction.
The Kenya National Highways Authority says it has partnered with the Kenya Railways to introduce additional wagons to offload the travelers from the road and that vehicles parked at the terminus will be secure as the owner’s transit to the train to the Central Business District.
The move has been occasioned by the ongoing construction of the Nairobi Expressway whose overall progress so far stands at about 60 percent.
The authority says there will be traffic congestion at the Gateway Mall area, Mlolongo, and the entire route that is under construction.
The authority says the JKIA-Mlolongo section will be restored on September 10, the Westlands-James Gichuru section on September 30, Haileselassie-UON roundabout on September 30, and while the elevated section now stands 73 percent complete.
The construction of the road has led to pain among some users who spend hours in traffic jams.
