NAKURU, Kenya, Sept 14 – A sting operation saw police drawn from Nakuru and Narok county Monday evening lay a trap for a suspected criminal said to have stolen goods worth Sh2 million shillings from a business store in Narok.
The owner of the consignment notified police of the incident after the goods were stolen from his store.
Police set a trap at a house identified as ‘Kayole’ where the goods are said to have been stored along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway and eventually managed to recover them. The owner of the house is said to have fled moments before the operation.
Detectives are now pursuing three other suspects among them a prominent businesswoman in the area.
Naivasha Sub-County Police Commander Samuel Waweru confirmed the incident and revealed that the matter has since been forwarded to sleuths in Narok.
“There was a robbery in Narok and the officers with our support have managed to recover the goods which have been ferried back to Duka Moja,” Said Waweru.
Residents expressed shock following the incident and lauded police’s efforts in weeding out criminal elements in the society.
In recent months Highway Robberies have been on the rise with traders reporting millions in losses.
In June a suspected gang stole goods worth Sh1.8 million before proceeding to kill the truck driver ferrying the consignment.
The thugs waylaid the driver along the Mai Mahiu-Naivasha Highway before smothering him to death.
According to authorities, the driver who initially resisted their attempts to hijack, was smothered to death.
