    Criminal Gangs Clash As Police Recover 2,040 Rounds Of Ammunition In Nairobi

    NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept 15- Police while responding to a distress call, managed to recover 34 cartons each containing sixty rounds of ammunition totaling 2,040 rounds along the Eastern bypass.

    Chrispine Otieno, a mechanic, had reported to police a shooting incident at his garage just opposite Be Energy Petrol Station.

    According to the mechanic, a motor vehicle plate number KAT 887G, a Mitsubishi Lancer stopped, and immediately the occupant alighted another vehicle white in colour registration number not taken stopped abruptly and an armed man came out and began shooting at the Mitsubishi Lancer.

    Officers drawn from Kayole Police Station visited the scene and established that the Mitsubishi Lancer had twenty bullet holes on the right rear door with glass windows shuttered.

    Some bullets had exited through the windscreen according to report by the police.

    Two other vehicles at the garage were also shot at leaving them with bullet holes.

    The two had been at the said garage for repair.

    Police recovered one spent cartridge of 7.62 mm× 39 special at the scene.

    Recovered rounds of ammunition.

    Two mobile phone make Tecno Camon and Xtigi were reportedly recovered.

    The Mitsubishi Lancer was towed to Ruai Police Station and the 2040 rounds of ammunition and one spent cartridge were taken as exhibits.

    A source at DCI Kayole, part of the team investigating the incident, said it could be fall out between smugglers dealing in firearms.

    “With the vehicle in our custody, we shall be able to know who was the occupant and what kind of business was he doing,” our source said.
