NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept 20- A missing Kenyan researcher who was abducted from the city centre in Nairobi was on Sunday released by his captors.

The family of Abdiwahab Sheikh Abdisamad who is the executive director of the Institute for Horn of Africa Strategic Studies and an analyst at Southlink Consultants says he was released on Sunday evening.

The details of his release are yet to be made public. Officials from human rights organization Haki Africa too confirmed the release of Abdiwahab who was abducted on September 8 along Tubman Road in Nairobi.

This prompted the Supreme Council of Kenya Muslim leadership to visit the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters and sought to address the rising cases of enforced disappearances.

He was abducted on September 8 at about 10 am as he walked into a hotel.

In Mombasa, missing businessman Abdulhakim Salim Sagar, said to have been abducted on August 19 was also released Sunday.

He is a cousin to Hanniya Sagar, wife of slain Islamic preacher Aboud Rogo.

It is not clear if there is a link between the two cases.

In a Tweet, HAKI Africa Executive Director Hussein Khalid said Saggar had been “warned” against speaking to journalists and human rights defenders.

Abdulhakim is back with his family. He's been warned not to speak to human rights actors or journalists. One is tortured, the Constitution and laws are flagrantly violated and on top of that threats??? One day we will have justice. For now… Aluta Continua! pic.twitter.com/JlfwJXpxYy
