KWALE,Kenya, Sep, 22 – The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS)is yet again on the spot after a stray buffalo attacked a 21 year old man in Mwarutswa village in Kikoneni-Lunga Lunga, Kwale County.
Richard Masinde, says that he was grazing his livestock when the buffalo attacked him, in the processes injuring his leg as he tried to climb up a tree in fear of his life.
“I called my parents who alerted KWS but they delayed until the animal ran away before my neighbors came for me, I was hurt and bleeding at that time,” Said Masoned.
According to residents, the animal is among 8 out 15 that were designated as part of a relocation programme to the Tsavo East National Park by KWS and Base Titanium in 2020.
Only 7 buffalos are said to have been successfully relocated.
“The animal has now injured my son and I think the next it is going to kill us, KWS have been taking us in circles, we want action done urgently,” said, Rueben Masinde, victim’s father.
Similar attacks according to residents have occurred in the area in the last three years.
As residents continue to live in fear. They also say that their crops, which are their source of livelihood have also been destroyed by the wild animals.
