KIAMBU,Kenya, Sep, 24 – After being imprisoned for at least a year on alleged trumped up charges of assault by his wife and son, John Gatonye was a free man hoping to turn his life around for the better.

Despite this, Gatonye is now no more, following his untimely death while undergoing treatment at a Thika based hospital following stomach complications.

According to preliminary reports, the deceased is said to have been assaulted and wounded with a sharp object.

Irate residents Friday stormed the home of the deceased’s wife, setting it ablaze after accusing her and her son of killing the man who sought a clean slate.

It is alleged that the deceased might have been killed following an ongoing land dispute over the ownership of a 4 acre parcel of land a month after his release from prison.

“The wife and son conspired to sell the land to another person, this is where all the troubles began,” said a resident.

The issue is said to have been a thorn in the flesh of the family for some time despite attempts to resolve the matter.

“Someone leased the land and later said that it was sold to her, they wanted to sell this farm and help themselves,” said Njuguna Mbugua.

Residents are now calling on security agencies to apprehend the alleged suspects who have since gone into hiding.

“The land in question belongs to my deceased father who was also similarly murdered by unknown persons,” said  Monica Wandia. deceased’s re;alive.

Officers from Kamwangi police division have since launched investigations into the death of Gatonye as the suspects are being pursued.
