NAIROBI,Kenya,Sep, 28 – The Communications Authority of Kenya Board has appointed former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chief Executive Officer Ezra Chiloba as the Authority’s new Director General with immediate effect.
In a statement signed by the Board’s chairperson former senator Kembi Gitura, chiloba will serve as DG for a period of four years with his term being renewable.
“The appointment follows a competitive process to fill the position left vacant with the retirement of former Director General Mr. Francis Wangusi,” read a section of the statement.
Mercy Wanja had been serving as the Authority’s acting DG since August 2019.
Prior to his appointment meanwhile, Chiloba had been serving as a member of the Youth Enterprise Development Fund following his appointment that was announced via a gazette notice dated December 24,2020 signed by ICT CS Joe Mucheru.
He was to serve for period of three years.
Chiloba who is a lawyer by profession will however best be remembered for his stint at the IEBC after which he was later ousted from office.
An internal audit report by the electoral body following several accusations, found him culpable of major procurement irregularities during the 2017 elections.
Though Chiloba defended his innocence saying that the process to fire him was predetermined and unfair, IEBC, Chairman Wafula Chebukti had at the time said, “Mr Chiloba’s gross misconduct, breach and violations of the Commission’s Human Resource and Administration policies left the Commission with no option other than to terminate his employment,”
