NYANDARUA,Kenya, Oct, 5 – Embattled Nyandarua County Assembly Speaker Ndegwa Wahome is no stranger to controversy following protracted leadership wrangles after he was ejected as the house’s speaker.
Tuesday however, following a court order directing his resumption to office, drama broke out after a section of members of the country assembly barred him from entering the premises.
The incident which occurred at around 9am saw Wahome and MCAs allied to him denied access as the door to the assembly was locked with the leader of majority Wambugu King’ori saying they would not allow a stranger into the assembly.
As a result police were quickly called to action after alleged goons attempted to stop proceedings at the assembly. They were shortly after arrested by police.
Wahome has since blamed governor Francis Kimemia for his woes.
“It is governor Kimemia who is the owner of this war. For his own benefit because he does not want accountability. But I can assure you all that devolution will work in Nyandarua with or without Kimemia. I have been stopped accessing the assembly despite very clear order of the court,” said Wahome.
MCAs that facilitated his ouster process however accused Wahome of failing to execute his mandate saying that he only has himself to blame.
“Why is he afraid to accompany senior police officers and Seargent at Arms in search of the goons in the House as alleged? Let him carry his cross,” said Mirangine MCA Samuel Mathu.
A Nakuru High court instructed that Wahome be allowed to resume his duties and that his official vehicle and Mace be returned to him.
Judge Justice Hillary Chemitei also instructed that Nyandarua County Commissioner Benson Leparmorijo and Police Commander Zachary Kimani enforce the orders within 48 hours of the ruling.
Leader of majority Wambugu Kingori, deputy Speaker Zachary Njeru and Clerk Elizabeth Muthui were meanwhile directed to pay a fine of Sh400,000 after they were found guilty of contempt of court each or serve a jail term of two months.
Normal House proceedings are now expected to resume on October, 12, 2021.
