SAMBURU,Kenya, Oct, 5 – Weeks after a High School female student was allegedly reported missing from her home, police now say she is set to be arraigned for drug possession charges.

The school girl was arrested in Maralal town after she found in possession of 26 kilograms of bhang with a  street value of at least Sh300,000.

She was apprehended following a tip-off from members of the public according to Shabaa assistant Chief Zablon Lekaangu.

“We responded to a tip off from the public. Unfortunately one suspect fled but we arrested one girl here. I can say that we have made leads and we will arrest the other suspect soon,” Said Lekaangu.

The suspect who allegedly went missing days before her end off term examinations, was found in a house whose compound was full of marijuana plants.

The illegal plants were seized by the area’s drugs enforcement unit amidst an investigation to establish her link to the drug trade in the area.

“The house seems to be a crime den from the first sight. We are going to unravel where the bhang is sneaked from,” he said.

Police also confiscated mobile phones and other exhibits now admitted as evidence.

According to local residents, the house was allegedly frequently visited by minors.

Investigations into the matter is ongoing as a manhunt for the other suspect, Martin Orenge continues.
