NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 11- Several people have been left homeless after government officials flattened houses on a road reserve within Mukuru Slums, Nairobi.
Officials say the expansion of Catherine Ndereba Road from Airport Road is part of a planned exercise to ensure the network in the informal settlement is good.
The move led to the displacements of hundreds of people, who lived there.
Government bulldozers landed in the area on Monday morning in a demolition exercise that was being supervised by police and roads officials.
The officials said those whose houses were demolished had been warned and compensated.
The road is part of the Nairobi expressway and is aimed at easing traffic flow on roads surrounding the highway.
Those affected have been urged to move elsewhere. Lack of roads in informal settlements has affected many services in general.
