NAIROBI,Kenya, Oct, 21 – The record has now been set straight on the fate of bars and restaurants after a day characterised by confusion – Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe says that they are to be closed by 11pm.

“With the removal of the curfew….we are reverting to closure of bars and restaurants at 11pm or the time allowed by the licensing authorities,” Said Kagwe.

Kenyans have meanwhile been advised to continue observing the ministry of Health Guidelines on COVID-19 in order to combat its spread in the country.

Bars and restaurants are now expected to ensure that they adhere to protocols on hand washing, social distancing, sanitising, which,”remain in force,”

“This means that all facilities will still be expected to have hand washing posts  and abide by the sitting capacity ….not just what has been set forth by COVID-19 protocols are concerned but as set forth even previously on health grounds,”

Failure by the facilities to adhere to the rules, Kagwe said that the full force of the law shall be enforced including closing down bars or restaurants that defy the rules.

On Wednesday during the Mashujaa Day celebrations, president Uhuru Kenyatta announced that the dusk to dawn curfew had been lifted.

But even as the economy reopens, Kenyans have been urged to remain vigilant and observe the basic preventive measures like wearing face mask while in public and washing of hands.
