NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 21- Detectives have commenced investigations into the Wednesday night incident at the home of vocal human rights defender Boniface Mwangi.

The incident happened in Machakos, where the activist is building a family home.

The National Police Service headquarters said already a report had been filed and police officers deployed to the scene.

The report was filed at Thika police station.

According to a report filed by one of the workers, three attackers driving a pick-up truck executed the crime, whose motive remains unknown.

“Members of the public with any information to assist with the investigation are encouraged to contact the police,” the National Police Service said in a Tweet.

Former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga has condemned the attack.

The activist has accused a Machakos based politician for being behind the attack.

“I’m hurting, but my spirit isn’t broken. Even this will pass. In a few hours, the day will break and it will be the work of IG, DCI, ODPP…to open investigations. If the government doesn’t go after the culprits, they shall survive to hunt me and hurt others,” Mwangi said in a Tweet.

In another Tweet tagged to among others State House, Mwangi wrote; ” I’m not a criminal. I don’t do deals. I have never compromised my values. The state has blown up the house my family was building. The bullets, the explosives they used are on the scene. So what kind of a country are we living in?”

The activist is vocal against stealing of public resources, abuse of human rights, land grabbing, gender based violence among other vices.
