NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 27- Deputy Inspector General of Police Edward Mbugua has directed the immediate closure of all police posts and patrol bases with less than 6 officers.
In his directive, the officers in the affected posts and bases will be deployed to the main stations.
According to Mbugua, the move has been necessitated due to the realization that the officers were unable to deliver services to Kenyans, as expected.
“You are directed to recall those officers and deploy them to their mother stations. Security within the affected areas will be provided by sending officers on patrols,” the DIG directed.
He noted that services to the public were highly compromised in areas served by inadequate officers.
Instead, he said there should be frequent police patrols in the affected areas.
Such posts with inadequate officers and more so in crime-prone areas are always victims of attacks.
For example, unknown assailants raided Kirimon police post on Tuesday and stole two g3 rifles. The post is based in Samburu Central.
An incident report seen by Shahidi News indicates that the attackers also made away with two magazines loaded with a total of 40 rounds of ammunition.
The post had four officers only.
“At the point of attack, there was only one police officer within the post,” a senior officer in the area told Shahidi News.
