MANDERA,Kenya, Oct, 27 – A Mandera Law Court has allowed police to hold two suspects implicated in the murder of a 14-year-old class seven pupil.

It is alleged that the two, Ibrahim Ahmed Shaur, 20, and Yusuf Ahmed Shaur, 17, lured their victim, Ibrahim Abdullahi Hassan into a house before rolling him in a mattress, doused it with petrol before setting it on fire.

Hassan, 14, succumbed to injuries early Wednesday morning while undergoing treatment at Mandera County Referral Hospital.

The deceased had been accused of being a witness in a case that his brother Ibrahim Ahmed, one the suspects, was accused of stealing a mobile phone.

Johnes Nyangige, a police officer investigating the matter, in a sworn affidavit told the court that the suspects were more safe in custody since the community was baying for their blood.

“The respondents’ lives are in danger since the community is angry with the incident. We need time to carry out an autopsy to ascertain the death of the victim,” Mr Nyagige told the court.

He added, “I am praying to be allowed to hold the respondents in this matter for fourteen days to allow conclusion of investigation into the murder of Ibrahim Abdullahi Hassan”.

According to Mr Nyangige, the victim was rescued by members of the public who took him to the hospital for medication.

The suspects were arrested by the police on Tuesday.

Mandera Senior Resident Magistrate Peter Wasike allowed the police to hold the two suspects for fourteen days.

He ordered the police to ensure both age and mental assessment is done on the two suspects before they are charged.

The matter shall be mentioned on November 12.

Meanwhile, a police officer is cooling his heels at Kakamega Police cells after he was arrested in connection to robbery with violence claims.

Police Constable John Kennedy Chibeira of Butere  Sub County CIPU was arrested on Tuesday within Kakamega township.

He was found in possession of a mobile phone reported missing by Mildred Mukunde on September 3, 2021.

Ms Mukunde has reported that she was attacked by two men armed with a panga and rungu riding on a motorcycle wearing jungle smoke jackets and robbed her off two mobile phones make Samsung Galaxy and Techno.

She lost Sh5000 to the two armed men.

The arrested officer had earlier on August 28, 2021 left his place of work and went into a bar in Kakamega town and caused a commotion.

It was reported that he assaulted two barmaids at the facility who later withdrew the case under unclear circumstances.
