NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 31 – The Nairobi county Fire Brigade team was quickly deployed to Buruburu Girls Secondary School after a fire broke out in one of the dormitories.

According to preliminary reports, the fire was first reported at around 5 pm.

Pedestrians and motorists plying the road near the school reported screams emanating from the learning institution as the billowing smoke could be seen from a distance.

A video on social media revealed shocking scenes of students jumping from the third floor of the dormitory in a bid to save their lives.

Buruburu Sub-county police commander Francis Kamau confirmed the incident saying the fire brigade team was at the scene responding to the distress calls.

The fire has since been contained.

“The fire broke out in a cube within the affected dormitory. The cube hosts 10 students,” said Caroline Maina, Principal Buruburu Girls.

The cause of the fire is yet to be established as 10 students are said to have sustained various injuries. They have since been admitted to various hospitals within the sub-county including the Metropolitan Hospital.

Concerned parents streamed to the institution seeking to establish the safety of their children.

    Investigations are ongoing.
