NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 1- Two suspects were on Sunday arrested and 89 bales of marijuana recovered from them, during a police operation along Garissa Road in Thika town.
Police had laid an ambush when they flagged down a Nairobi-bound lorry christened Rhino Cement which was carrying the narcotics.
According to police, the suspects are part of a notorious criminal syndicate that guises as serious builders of the nation, while trading in the illegal drug from Wajir using branded vehicles.
Most of the narcotics originate from Ethiopia where they are packaged for the market in Nairobi and other major towns.
Cannabis is considered a narcotic in Kenya and its cultivation, possession, and use are a criminal offence under the Penal Code.
Those convicted can be jailed for 10-20 years.
