NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 1- Kenya’s Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai has directed the investigating arm of the National Police Service- the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to reopen Agnes Wanjiru’s murder case, in a ‘renewed’ pursuit of justice, 9 years later after her murder, days after an exposé by Sunday Times.
Wanjiru was allegedly killed by a British soldier in 2012 and her body was dumped in a septic tank of a hotel in Nanyuki.
The DCI, the IG of Police said will, “reopen the case and compile all the available evidence and witness accounts and ensure the case is concluded before a court of law.”
An inquest led by Judge Njeri Thuku and ended in 2019 concluded that Wanjiru was killed by one or two British soldiers. She was last seen alive in the company of two soldiers.
When her body was retrieved from the hotel’s septic tank, it had some parts missing and a stabbing wound.
The Judge had ordered two further criminal inquiries. No action was taken.
