    Man Accused Of Setting Mother’s House On Fire Over Lack Of Supper

    NAIROBI,Kenya, Nov, 9 – Arraigned at the Kibera Law Courts, 27 year old Joseph Njuguna Wahithe has been accused of wilfully and unlawfully setting fire to his mother, Lucy Wahithe Kiarie house after the later allegedly failed to prepare supper for him.

    Njuguna who was presented before senior principal magistrate Esther Bhoke is said to have locked her mother inside the house during the fateful day on November 6,2021.

    The accused is said to have come from a drunken stupor when he arrived at his mother’s Dagoretti home later demanding food. Despite being told that it was not ready and that he should wait for it while in his room, he allegedly shouted that he would, ‘do something’ if his demands were not met.

    A slight confrontation is said to have broke out between the two before the accused left the premises.

    Shortly after, the accused’s mother noticed fire inside her house – She screamed for help as neighbours quickly came to her rescue. The gate to her house had also been locked.

    The fire razed down the house destroying property worth Sh 1.3 million.

    The accused was later apprehend by irate neighbours and roughed up after he was found hiding at a friend’s home.

    His mother later intervened and rushed him to hospital before being arrested by police.

    While in court Njuguna denied the charges and was released on Sh 500,000 bond.

    The case will now be mentioned on November 22.
