NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 13- Langata based crime busters Saturday arrested a suspect who sought information on a popular club that raised concerns.

The suspect identified as Ali Abdullahi Hussein was arrested within Langata shopping center.

The suspect who is a Somali National with American citizenship had at around 2 am, the DCI said, approached a police officer on patrol and cunningly sought information from him that he found suspicious.

The suspect, DCI said in a statement, sought to know on which day of the week a popular joint along Langata road, hosts the largest number of patrons.

According to police, the officer was puzzled by the questions from the suspect, who posed as an ordinary civilian seeking general information.

When the officer hesitated to respond, the suspect allegedly offered a reward of Sh180,000 in exchange for the information that was not forthcoming.

Convinced that the man was up to no good, the officer on patrol raised his colleagues who responded immediately and arrested the suspect.

Officials said 1,396 U.S dollars were recovered from the suspect.

He was later handed to the anti-terror detectives, to establish his motives. He was found with a passport to suggest he is a U.S. citizen.

Langata police boss Benjamin Mwanzî said they will seek to know his motives. The country is on alert over different threats including terrorism.

This has forced police authorities to recall officers who are on leave.

On Friday president Uhuru Kenyatta directed internal security institutions to heighten vigilance and surveillance across the country following the unfolding security situation.

The Head of State gave the instructions during Friday’s National Security Council meeting. There are fears is chaos in an ongoing standoff in Ethiopia which may spill over to Kenya.

Police have also been on alert over fears of terrorism. Police last week put an Sh50 million bounty on five terror suspects.

The police put the bounty on missing terror convict Elgiva Bwire, Salim Rashid Mohammed, Mohammad Abubakar, Barigi Abdikadir Haila, and Trevor Ndwiga.

Tales of Bwire took a new twist after the state announced he had gone underground and described him as armed and dangerous.
