NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 15- More FKF officials are Monday expected to appear before the DCI for grilling over claims of fraud at the agency.
FKF President Nick Mwendwa was Monday expected in court where police will ask for more time to hold him as they investigate the claims. Mwendwa spent the weekend in police cells after his arrest on Friday.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed has since validated and enacted a caretaker committee, to run the federation for six months pending fresh elections.
This comes even as the world governing body Fifa, said due process was not followed in effecting the changes.
Mwendwa is in the spotlight for allegedly failing to account for more than Sh500 million given by the government for the day-to-day running of football activities in the country.
An inspection committee formed by Amina revealed that a whopping Sh29,502,709 out of the federation’s funds was allegedly withdrawn by one of FKF signatories
The caretaker committee will be led by Retired Judge Aaron Ringera. Also, in the 15-member committee is Rtd Gen. Moses Oyugi and Bobby Ogolla.
A special audit of the books of accounts is set to be carried out “and subsequent frequent future audits.”
FKF has since been barred from opening any further bank account unless when authorized by the Principal Secretary within the 6-month period the caretaker committee will be in place.
It further recommends that the Ministry of Sports not to release any funds to FKF, unless and until “the previous funds are accounted for.”
The caretaker committee will conduct all the affairs of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) in accordance with its constitution.
The committee is also tasked with ensuring FKF is in compliance with the Sports Acts (2013).
It is also expected to coordinate and ensure FKF’s operations smoothly, including team preparations of all local and international sporting events.
