BUNGOMA,Kenya, Nov, 17 – Police in Webuye, Bungoma county have launched a manhunt for a woman that abandoned her child at the Bungoma bus terminus on Monday.

According to preliminary reports, the unidentified woman had just alighted from a matatu at the Dina bus terminus when she sought the assistance of another woman to hold her child, claiming that she was unpacking her luggage and goods she was ferrying.

Moments after handing over her 2 month old child to Mary Wanjala, the woman is said to have headed to the Kitale bus Stage where she was to load her luggage.

“I was at the bus terminus to go to Bungoma, a woman then alighted form a matatu and handed her child to me saying I hold the child for a moment…I did not know that she was running,” said Wanjala.

Attempts to track her down proved futile with bodaboda operators telling the woman that she had just boarded a matatu destined for Kitale town.

“Im urging mothers not to abandon their children….How can a mother do that to their own child?” posed a local resident.

Area police say that investigations have been launched to track down the mother where she will be arraigned for child neglect.
