NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 18- Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi on Thursday withdrew assault charges against Wajir East legislator Rashid Kassim Amin.
This was after the two legislators settled the matter out of court.
The Woman Representative said she had forgiven MP Kassim “unconditionally” and asked the court to terminate the case.
The two were appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Nazushi.
“In the spirit of cohesion and peace and the handshake that happened on Sunday that was witnessed by our elder brother the Cabinet Secretary for Finance Ukur Yatani, both of us are here today, I have withdrawn the case against my brother who is also my MP,” she said.
She added that, “I know from previous engagement I have had with him that we will work together for the interest of the people of Wajir County, its only that something small happened and we have looked at the bigger picture and the bigger picture is withdrawing the case and forgiving him which I have done unconditionally.”
The drew her inspiration from the political handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta with his then nemesis former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Amin was accused of assaulting Wajir Woman Representative at Parliament Buildings in Nairobi County.
The incident allegedly happened in the full glare of other legislators and security officers, who were manning Parliament ahead of Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich’s unveiling of the Sh3.02 trillion 2019-20 budget.
Kassim is said to had demanded to know why Gedi, who is a member of the Budget and Appropriations Committee, failed to allocate money to his constituency during a visit by the budget team.
