Gunfire As Armed Thugs Storm Equity Bank In Kisumu

KISUMU, Kenya, Nov 23- The Equity Bank branch in Kisumu is currently a scene of crime, as police engage armed thugs holed up inside the premises.

It is believed four armed thugs are inside the bank, in what is now a botched robbery attempt. The bank is located along Ang’awa street, within Kisumu town.

The thugs, police, and witnesses told Shahidi News, stormed into the banking hall at 11 am.

“They are heavily armed and also have teargas canisters,” a police officer told Shahidi News.

It is not yet clear whether there were customers and how many when the incident happened.

The staff at the bank are held up inside, as elite police officers plan to storm in.

“The thugs have been throwing teargas canisters to slow us down. But we will get them,” a senior officer said. “They are now on the first floor, maybe inside a toilet.”
