NAIROBI,Kenya,Nov, 24 – Dickson Mararo is now set to face murder charges after a victim he had shot at a bar along Thika Road, Nairobi on July 2,2021 died.

The deceased constable Festus Musyoka died while receiving treatment, four months after being hospitalised for gun shot injuries inflicted on him by the accused.

The incident occurred at the club after an alleged altercation over a woman. The accused’s lawyer Cliff Ombeta however defended his client when initially arraigned saying that he acted in self defence and that there was a prolonged heated verbal engagement before the incident.

During the incident two police officers and a woman sustained gunshot injuries.

The victims were identified as Festus Musyoka, a police constable attached at the Starehe DCI offices while the second one was identified as Lawrence Muturi, a police constable attached at the petty crime unit at Kasarani police station.

The third victim was identified as Felictas Nzisa.

Constable Musyoka was shot on the left side of his neck, constable Muturi was reportedly shot on the hand while Nzisa was shot on the abdomen.

The accused, Mararo, surrender himself to police nearly three days later after DCI detectives attached at the Serious Crime Unit kicked of a manhunt for him.

He had initially cited that his life was in danger when asked why he fled shortly after the incident.

Mararo’s firearm, a Glock pistol, was confiscated until the case is determined. He was freed on Sh5 million cash bail or Sh10 million bond. He has not afforded to leave because the cashbail was too high.

At the time while applying for a bail application, the suspect’s lawyer, Cliff Ombeta said that the prosecution’s argument that they needed more time to record his statement as well as conduct an identification parade was unnecessary since his client already complied with the detective’s demands.

He told the court that investigations commenced on July 2, 2021.

“When they say the suspect ran away from the scene, how does they have a bearing on this matter because the same suspect we are told presented himself by counsel or presented before them, is that a reason to hold him today? We are told he has not been processed, that is not true, they took his fingerprints and photographs in my presence,” said Ombeta.

In the CCTV footage retrieved from the entertainment joint, Mararo was seen fleeing the scene and eventually leaving the premises using his vehicle.
