NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 29- Police are on Monday set to commission the construction of their hospital in Nairobi.
President Uhuru Kenyatta will be the chief guest at the event. This will cater to growing needs by the personnel and their families of both institutions, officials said.
The National Police Service is constructing a Level 4 Hospital along Raila Odinga Way near Kenyatta National Hospital.
According to the police plans from 2018, the main objective of the project is for the police officers and their families to access quality, accessible and affordable healthcare.
“The NPS Level 4 Hospital, whose preparatory work has commenced, will cater for police officers’ health needs. It is in line with ongoing police reforms and preparing officers to be ready to police in the 21st Century,” Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai said on November 1.
The Administration Police Service is also constructing a 160-bed hospital in Kanyonyo, Kitui County.
The Kenya Prisons Service is also constructing a hospital at the Kenya Prisons Staff Training College in Ruiru.
The Prisons hospital will be built at the Kenya Prisons Staff Training College in Ruiru.
The construction of police and prisons hospitals comes months after President Kenyatta presided over the groundbreaking construction of the Kenya Research and Referral Hospital at Kabete Barracks in Nairobi.
It is set to be a centre of excellence in medical care for all security agencies in Kenya, offering comprehensive care and acting as a referral facility for the regional hospitals.
The military says it will also be a medical research facility.
It will have an oncology department for cancer cases, an outpatient unit, an emergency unit with 15 operating theatres, and an inpatient unit with 11 floors and 700 beds.
China Wu Yi is building the facility on four acres.
