NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 30- A woman has moved to court seeking monthly child upkeep amounting to Sh200,000 from Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina.

According to court documents seen by Shahidi News, the child is aged one. Esther Wanjiru Gatume made the application through her lawyer Ojijo Senaji.

“That this honourable court is pleased to order the respondent to pay interim maintenance of Ksh200,000 per month, being child support for the minor herein pending hearing and determination of this application,” reads a section of the application.

The woman has asked the court to compel the Senator to pay for the minor school fees and related expenses, as well as include the minor in his medical cover pending hearing and determination of the suit.

She argues that Ledama is a prolific businessman other than being a legislator, and has a steady income.

In the suit documents before court dated November 25, 2021, Wanjiru claims she met the senator in September 2019.

It is after that, she said that they began an intimate relationship that led to the birth of the child in October 2020.

But she claims that the Senator abandoned her as soon as she got pregnant and cut off communication with her.

“That when I conceived and realized I was pregnant, I immediately informed the respondent that he was going to be a father, but to my dismay and utter shock, the respondent cut off communication with me,” she said in her affidavit.

Through a certificate of urgency filed in court, the woman said she went through the pregnancy period alone without any assistance from the senator.

“That I was left with no other choice but to settle all the cost and bills for during the pregnancy, medical checkups, scans, and birthing preparations, and post-delivery costs on my own without any involvement of the respondent,” she said.

The woman claims she has since lost her job and is struggling to raise her baby alone.

Nairobi Court Chief Magistrate CC Oluoch certified the matter as urgent and ordered the applicant to serve the respondents for inter-parties hearing on January 11, 2022.
