NAIROBI,Kenya ,Dec,1 – Apollo Nyabola, Washington Wasonga, Daniel Oreng and Moses Osore were arraigned at the Makadara Law Courts and accused of conspiracy to extortion by impersonating police officers.
The four accused are said to have attempted to defraud Metropolitan Canon Insurance Company CEO James Oyugi. They allegedly said that they were investigating him for corruption related accusations.
The court was further informed that the four allegedly threatened to report Oyugi to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) for running an insurance brokerage company while in employment and involvement in corruption.
Appearing before principal magistrate Agnes Kamau, one of the accused, Apollo, Nyabola is said to have visited the complainant office while he was away saying that he urgently needed to see him. He is sait o ave left a note expressing his intentions.
He is said to have returned at a later date and told him that he was under investigations by an officer based at the capitol hills police station.
While testifying to the court, Oyugi said the accused said that he could help him and even prevent his file from being forwarded to the EACC before shortly after dismissing him.
The suspects are accused of committing the offences on diverse dates between August 20 and August 27 of 2018.
The prosecutions said that one of the accused, Moses Osore, was arrested in the course of the investigations.
The four allegedly sort Sh1 million saying that there was, “room for negations to help him avert being prosecuted.”
They denied the charges and have since been released on bond.
The case is set to be heard on May,25.2022.
