    Police Launch Manhunt For Herders Who Assaulted Assistant Chief In Ol-Moran

    LAIKIPIA,Kenya, Dec, 1 – Githima sub location Assistant Chief Peter Waciuri is receiving treatment at the Nyahururu County Referral hospital after being assaulted by herders while resolving a dispute over grazing land.

    According to Kirima Sub County Deputy County Commissioner John Orata, the chief had been called in to resolve a dispute pitting herders and farmers after the initial invaded their plantation farm.

    The mediation is said to have deescalated quickly with the herders allegedly turning on the chief, assaulting him with batons, and even swords.

    Doctors at the hospitals said that he sustained injuries across his body including his head.

    “The herders we suspect are from the neighbouring Samburu County…they had driven their livestock into a fruit plantation calling for the intervention of the chief, ” said Orata.

    According to one of the farmers, the invasion by the herders on their farm resulted resulted in damages worth Sh600,000.

    Meanwhile police have since issued a directive that herders vacate from farms in the contested areas.

    Some the herders are belived to be from Isiolo, Samburu and Baringo.

    A security operation has been ongoing the area amidst bandit attacks that has resulted in the death of several people including police officers.
