DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania, Dec 9 – President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to attend Tanzania’s 60th independence day celebrations months after being formally invited by his counterpart President Samia Suluhu Hassan while in a state visit to Kenya.
This is the first time Kenyatta will travel to Tanzania on an official visit, said Kenya’s High Commissioner to Tanzania, Daniel Kazungu.
“He has been to Tanzania several times for work purposes but has never made an official visit,” he said during a press conference in Tanzania.
Kenyatta is on his final day expected to sign several bilateral agreements as the two neighbours seek to renews historical ties in trade among others area.
The president will be accompanied by several cabinet secretaries.
On Wednesday, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe met his Tanzanian counterpart Dr. Dorothy Gwajima as part of ongoing efforts to enhance cooperation in the health sector among the two East African nations.
Dr. Gwajima had in August this year, led a technical team comprising of health experts from Tanzania to Kenya for bilateral talks centered on opportunities in the health sector.
Meanwhile Tanzania’s 60th independence day celebrations which will be hosted at the Uhuru stadium is expected to welcome several African heads of state including Rwandan President Paul Kagame, Mozambique President Filipe Nyusi, Former Malawian President Joyce Banda, and deputy prime minister of Eswatini, Themba Masuku.
