KISII,Kenya, Dec, 16 – Kisii High Court Judge Rose Ougo has declined to grant six accused persons bail for allegedly killing four elderly women in Nyagonyi village, Marani Subcounty in October.

The accused are said to have lynched four elderly women after accusing them of practicing witchcraft.

The six include: Amos Nyakundi,Chrispine Ogeto,Peter Angwenyi,Brian Nyakundi,Ronald Ombati and Justin Morara.

The offence was committed on October,17,2021 with the accused pleading not guilty.

An application by the accused seeking bond was declined with ougo saying that the matter was extremely serious.

The prosecution led by Susan Kibungi meanwhile said that if the accused were released, then the state could not be able to guarantee their safety -At the same time they also expressed concern over the safety of the victim’s family.

The killing of the four elderly people saw mass protest in the town over the incident with the family of the deceased and residents calling for immediate justice.

The court also revealed that the accused failed to reveal where they would stay if released.

Shaffin Kaba, who is the accused’s lawyer pleaded with the court to have their clients released saying that it was their constitutional right and that the prosecution failed to provide compelling reasons why they should not be released on bond.

Meanwhile, senior counsel John Khaminwa who is representing the victim’s family through the Kenya Human Rights Comission also pppossed their release.

The case is now set to be mentioned on March, 1 and 2, 2022.
