MAKUENI,Kenya, Dec, 19 – Police in Makindu, Makueni county have launched a manhunt for two suspects that vandalised transformers at the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) in the area.
The incident which was captured on CCTV saw the two vandalising a key power supply unit in the area when police were notified of the damage to public property.
According to preliminary reports, police officers based at Makindu and Emali police stations was dispatched to arrest the assailants before they fled into a nearby bush after spotting a police vehicle which was pursuing them.
“The thugs did not know there was CCTV monitoring everything they were doing,” said police.
The facility which is a critical government infrastructure is under 24 hour surveillance.
Vandalizing such infrastructure attracts charges related to Economic Sabotage and Terrorism.
This is not the first instance reported targeting SGR infrastructure.
Several suspects have since been arrested as a manhunt continues for others believed to be pat of the gang.
