NAIROBI,Kenya, Dec,20 – Police are probing a case where five officers from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) have been accused of taking part in a forgery syndicate as well as corruption allegations.
A probe by detectives saw the suspects arrested after it was alleged that they took part in the production of fake as well as genuine documents in clear contravention of their mandate as NTSA officers.
A least 450 genuine motor vehicle logbooks were recovered at a cyber cafe in Ngara, Nairobi this past week.
“They are part of syndicate engaged in this illegal activity and we believe their actions are putting the lives of other motorists in jeopardy,” said a police privy to the case.
Detectives probing the case are set to interrogate senior officials at NTSA in regarding the racket. Some could also be arraigned over corruption and forgery allegations.
This is not the first time such allegations have been imposed on NTSA officers.
In 2019, detectives from DCI sought answers as to how vehicle said to have been used in a terror attack beard the registration number of another vehicle.
Several motorists have equally raised concerns over their registration details being used by other motorists.
The DCI on Friday revealed that the syndicate was working with officials from NTSA who transfer ownership of the vehicles.
