BARINGO,Kenya, Dec, 22 – Days after police launched a manhunt for Kasaka location assistant chief Thomas Chesang, after he was accused of allegedly defiling a 12 year old girl, he has finally surrendered to police.

The suspect presented himself before police yesterday at the  Kabartonjo Police station.

He is set to be arraigned and will face defilement charges as well as impregnating a minor.

He is currently being held at Kabarnet Police station.

Police had revealed that they tracked the assistant chief’s mobile phone to Nakuru town amidst efforts to apprehend him.

The horrific incident is said to have occurred last week on Wednesday.

According to preliminary reports, the incident was reported by the victim’s father Elijah Cheptoo at the Kabartonjo Police station.

Shockingly though, the victim, her mother’s and brother have also been missing since Friday…just days after the matter was reported.

“I do not know where my wife went, I came back and she was nowhere to be found, my daughter is also missing. I am shocked,” said Elijah Cheptoo, victims’s father

Cheptoo says that he inquired from neighbours where his wife and child might have gone but his efforts proved futile.

Meanwhile, three village elders from the area have been arrested for allegedly being accomplices in the matter. They are said to have attempted to hid the details of the case through an informal dispute resolution committee.

They are currently being held at Kabarnet Police Station.

“I have not sleep for days, looking for my mother and daughter, this is a very sad incident. We want to know the truth, what happened to our child?” said Cecilia Limo, victim’s sister.

investigations into the matter is ongoing.
