NAIROBI,Kenya, Dec, 22 – Tony Wangila and Wilfred Omari can now breathe a sigh of relief after they struck an out of court settlement after they were accused of attempting to dupe a university student of his laptop.

The two are said to have posed as potential buyers online expressing their intention to purchase a laptop from the victim.

They are said to have obtained the laptop worth Sh 15,500 on December,16,2021.

Stephen Nyongesa, the victim is said to have posted the laptop on a digital platform saying that it was for sale.

Appearing before principal magistrate Sharon Maroro the first accused, Wangila, is said to have contacted the victim and later sent the second accused, Omari with a check outside Equity Bank Kawangware area to finalise the transaction.

Omari deposited the cheque and showed Nyongesa receipts before leaving with the laptop.

A few days later, Nyongesa checked his account and found no money had been deposited and that he had a penalty of Sh2,400 for depositing a bounced cheque.

Frustrated by the news, he reported the matter to police and laid an ambush, telling the accused that he was selling another laptop worth Sh 18,000.

Omari is said to have met up with Nyongesa with a fake check, however little did he know that police had been briefed on the case.

He was apprehended and later led police to his other colleague, Wangila.

They pleaded not guilty and the case was eventually dropped after agreeing on a settlement out of court.
