NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 6- President Uhuru Kenyatta will Thursday conduct an inspection tour of the new Kipevu Oil Terminal in Mombasa which when complete the newly built oil terminal will be the largest in Africa as it can handle Uganda’s monthly fuel consumption in one session.
Chinese Foreign minister Wang Yi will also visit the facility.
The terminal has 4 newly built berths with each that can handle a ship carrying 190 million litres of fuel.
This means that each of the 4 berths at the new terminal has the capacity of handling 750 million litres of fuel per session.
The President in just 9 years will have multiplied Kipevu’s handling capacity 20 fold.
In just 8 years, the government has built four times more oil berths at the Kipevu Oil Terminal, than the British Colonial government and the first three regimes built.
The new terminal will save demurrage costs by Shs1.4 billion a month.
