NAIROBI,Kenya, Jan, 6 – Peterson Mongare and Boniface Kiluvutu were arraigned at the Kibera Law Cours Thursday and charged with neglecting to prevent theft at an apartment in Lavington, Nairobi county.
As a result of the incident, property worth an estimated Sh 1.7 million shillings was stolen.
The stolen goods include electronics and jewellery.
The victim,Romana Chaudry said they included, a laptop, 13 gold watches, a golden wedding ring, three golden earrings among an assortment of jewelleries worth Sh1,747,000.
The incident is said to have occurred on December 26, 2021.
Appearing before Resident Magistrate William Tullel, the victim said that, the two failed to, “use reasonable means to prevent the theft.”
Court documents meanwhile showed that the office of Director of Public Prosecutions dropped similar charges against Robinson Maroko who was the morning guard on the fateful day since the incident is said to have occurred 3pm and 9pm.
“Being security guards employed by G4S and deployed to guard the above mentioned place (Clyde apartments) knowing that an offence of house breaking and stealing was to be committed failed to use all reasonable means to prevent the said stealing,” read a section of the charge sheet.
The victim said that on the fateful day she was shocked to find her house door wide open.
She quickly called the guards who escorted her in only to find her house ransacked.
The guards were shortly after the incident reported following an official complaint filed at the local police station.
There two denied the charges against them.
The accused meanwhile told the court that the victim was willing to withdrawn the charges against them.The Magistrate however urged them to follow through and file an official application to have it completed.
The were each released on a Sh 500,000 bond and an alternative cash bail of Sh 250,000.
The case will be mentioned on January 17, 2022.
