KISII, Kenya, Jan 10- Tension remains high in Bomachoge Borabu and South Mugirango areas, after a woman had been accused of being a witch died from beatings.
The woman, police said died while undergoing treatment in hospital.
The incident happened in Choro village, which borders the two constituencies.
As a result, several houses were burnt down and sugar plantations destroyed on Saturday night.
The 80-year-old woman was beaten on December 23, 2021, after she was accused of practicing witchcraft.
Locals said the elderly woman identified as Jane Nyaonyi was beaten by another woman and her two sons.
“She was rushed to Lenmek hospital in Ogembo and got admitted until Saturday night when she succumbed to the injuries,” police told Shahidi News.
Her death led to clashes between two clans living in the village.
By Sunday, at least seven houses had been torched and several hectares of sugar plantations destroyed.
Etago OCPD Laban Amol said they have deployed police officers in the troubled village to restore law and order.
“Our officers will remain at this border to ensure security is tightened and peace is restored. We have not arrested any suspect but we have launched investigations on this matter,” he said.
