GARISSA,Kenya, Jan 11 – The National police Service (NPS) is mourning the loss of four of its officers who were killed in an ambush perpetrated by suspected Al-Shabaab militants on Monday.
A contingent of police officers has already been deployed to the area amidst security concerns that the militants could conduct further attacks.
Security nationwide has been heightened particularly in areas bordering Somalia in the wake of recent Al-Shabaab attacks in Mandera, Wajir and Lamu.
The Monday incident which occurred between the Liboi-Kulan area according to preliminary reports saw the officers shot at while in their vehicle.

“We believe the gunmen crossed over from Somalia,” said police.
Three AK-47 rifles belonging to the officers were also stolen during the incident.
It is believed that residents initially heard the gunshots and later discovered the slain officers before notifying area police.
