GARISSA,Kenya, Jan, 11 – A Garissa family is now appealing for assistance to find their kin who went missing under unclear circumstances after he was cleared of terror charges by a Garissa court.
Sharif Sheikh Noor, 21 was arrested in Wajir County on December 4 ,2021 by officers from the Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) and transferred to face terror charges at Garissa high court where he pleaded not guilty.
According to the Family, the police asked the court for 10 days to hold the suspect for more investigations which the court granted.
After the lapse of the 10 days, the officers prayed for an additional 10 more days to continue holding the suspect but the court granted them (police) 8 days.
The cases was however dropped on December 29,2021 after investigations failed to link to terror related charges.
Abdullahi Yussuf, a family member says that Sharif was arrested by plain clothes police outside Garissa high on same day (December 29) who whisked him away using a pickup whose number plate was concealed. He has never been traced to date.
“As far as the family is concerned, we are calling on the security organs to tell us the whereabouts of our kin,” Abdullahi Yussuf said.
The family is now alleging that their kin was abducted by police officers and are calling on the Interior CS Fred Matiang’i and Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai to intervene in the matter.
“Our country is led by a rule of law. We have a constitution that every institution and organs should abide with. If Sharif remains a suspect to the police, let the rule of law take its course,” Muhsin Aden said.
Efforts to get police comments were futile as they did not want to speak about the matter.
