KWALE,Kenya, Jan, 14 – The delay of major infrastructural projects at the Coastal Region expected to change the economic fortunes of the area has been attributed to lack of adequate funds by the national government.
The global COVID-19 pandemic has also been cited as one of the contributing factors since the country went on a lockdown for at least a year affecting businesses.
Irrigation principal secretary Joseph Irung’u who led government officials in inspecting various projects said that several multi-billion shining projects stalled in the last two years but are expected to resume operation soon.
The Funzi Bridge project connecting Msambweni to Funzi Island is one of the staled projects which has had several contractors and is yet to be completed.
Also, the LungaLunga-Vanga road, at least 800 meters of the project is yet to be completed due to lack of adequate funds.
“We have seen the challenges which we noted and can only be realized when we come to the ground to see the progress,” said PS Irung’u.
The PS further said that the government is monitoring every project and will continue to monitor their progress in the event of emerging challenges.
Government Deputy Head of public service Wanyama Musiambo was however optimistic saying that the government will honour its promises and complete all stalled projects.
