NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 18- Police were on Tuesday morning still at the offices of businessman and politician Jimmy Wanjigi in Nairobi.
The officers raided the offices located in Westland on Monday evening, seeking to have him record a statement over a land case they have been investigating.
Wanjigi has termed the raid political, linking it to his tough stance in pursuit of ‘democracy’ in the Orange Democratic Movement party.
He is seeking to vie for president on the party’s ticket. But he will need to fight it off with the party leader Raila Odinga.
He was in the office at the Kwacha House when the incident happened.
He was holed up there for hours and it is not clear if he managed to leave.
Wanjigi said the incident was politically orchestrated due to his political stand.
Wanjigi, who has declared intention to vie for the Presidency in the upcoming August elections, vowed that he would not be intimidated.
“I will continue speaking the truth,” he said.
He said the Monday night’s raid mirrored a similar incident where his house was raided by police during the 2017 election season.
According to the businessman, DCI detectives arrived at his Kwacha Group of Companies offices in Wetlands, Nairobi, and demanded to personally see him.
After gaining access into the premises, the armed officers reportedly declined to address his lawyers and instead ordered that he accompanies them to record a statement without disclosing further details.
